BIOGRAPHY: Ellen McKenna is a Melbourne based artist and designer whose abstractwork focuses on colour, balance and movement. Describing herself as a colour maximalist, Ellen’s work is bold and designed to evoke emotions like joy and happiness.
 
Inspired by multidisciplinary design elements from the early to mid-20th Century, Ellen’s aesthetic is also shaped by her lifelongstudy and love of the arts which includes graduating with a degree inVisual and Performing Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts. Ellen works in acrylic on canvas artwork and both digital and painterly seamless repeat pattern design.

AWARDS: Ellen was shortlisted as a finalist and awarded a commendation
in The Design Files +Laminex -DesignAwards in the category of Textile Design.
 
SOLO EXHIBITIONS: Ellen produced a month long exhibition 'Feeling Colours’which was hosted by the Blue thumb Art Gallery and was part of Melbourne Design Week 2021 NGV and featured Ellen’s art and textile design.
 
In 2020 – Ellen ‘s solo exhibition ‘From Art to Fashion’, was hosted by the Town Hall Gallery, Hawthorn, and featured Ellen’s art and textile design.

Ellen was commissioned by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to create an exclusive facemask design -‘Cadenza’ .
