This beautifully crafted chest of five staggered drawers, designed by Neville Ward and Frank Austin for Loughborough Furniture around 1959, is a fine example of simple, elegant, and functional design.
Originally retailed at prestigious stores like Heal’s of London, Loughborough Furniture was celebrated for its low-volume, high-quality production during the 1950s and early 60s, with many pieces designed by Ward & Austin.
Constructed from richly figured muteneye (olive walnut) and birch, this chest is superbly proportioned, featuring five generously sized drawers. The staggered design is particularly practical, providing extra-deep storage for blankets or jumpers.
In excellent restored condition, this piece shows only minor dings and marks, a testament to its well-preserved history.
