A.Jelliffe MCM Teak Bedside Drawers with Bedhead

Beautiful set of Jelliffe  bedsides with detachable bedhead in Teak - Circa 1960
 
The veneer panels have a uniform lined vertical grain which can only be achiveed throught a a quarter cut veneer. (To create a quarter cut veneer, the log is first cut into quarters, creating four flitches. Each quarter flitch is then straight sliced, at roughly right angles to the growth rings.)
 
What we love:
The darling cigar shaped legs 
The elegant design & dovetail joinery
The solid timber inset pull handles
The floating bedhead with deep ledge for extra stroage space
 
The table tops of the bedsides and the top of the bedhead has been hand sanded and refinished using a natural timber oil (which is good fro humans and for wood).  Overall the set is in excellent vintage condition with minor little bruises and signs of wear here and there.
 
 
About the manufacturer:
 
The company as established in 1938 by Mr Arthur Jelliffe to manufacture furniture from the premises in Mt Alexander Road beside the Essendon Tram Depot. During WWll the Company was seconded by the Australian Government to work under the supervision of Victorian Interstate Airways to produce wooden artcraft components.
 
In 1948 Mr. Arthur Jelliffe regained control of the Company and was then joined by Mr. Robert Henry Eastgate and they recommenced furniture production. Unfortunately Mr. Jelliffe passed away two years later and Mr. Robert Henry Eastgate became sole owner of the Company.
